This painting was commissioned especially for 2021 Dio de Los Muertos Fundraiser Live Auction for Our Lady of Corpus Christi Catholic Church (OLCC), run by the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity ( SOLT).
Two weeks before the fundraiser event, Fr. Peter Marsalek, SOLT, called me about a painting donation and I was ecstatic to create this painting. With only less than 2 weeks to complete it, I set aside the St. Joseph painting that I was currently working on and began to brainstorm the concept. Usually it takes from a day to a week to formulate the concept but for this painting, the Holy Spirit inspired me with the concept within hours of my phone conversation with Fr. Peter.
Fr. Peter sent me photos of the statue of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity as a reference and I searched the internet for the interior of the OLCC Adoration Chapel. The concept was finally born. The background would be the Tabernacle area where Our Lady would be in place of the Tabernacle and the two angels from above where the Blessed Sacrament is located would now flank Our Lady below her. The purple background within the arch signifies her royalty as Queen of Heaven. I added the 12 stars as her crown to reflect the vision of John in the book of Revelation. There John tells us, “A great portent appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars”. Finally, the last layer which was the title was given by Fr. Peter when he first saw it at the event.
Working as long as possible each day, I completed the painting 4 hours before it was to be delivered. I had to allot time for framing that my loving hubby did for me as quickly as possible. With paint still wet on canvas and on my hands, we arrived with only minutes to spare at St. Joseph Hall on the OLCC Campus. It was placed on silent auction and later included in the Live Auction portion of the evening (it’s always a fun time to hear the auctioneers) and with a dramatic conclusion when Mona Lisa (event coordinator) entered waving a white piece of paper from the silent auction portion – it bore a written bid of $2,500 for the painting. The clear winner was a fellow artist, Jason Rodriguez whose unique artistic ability of creating Live paintings with latex or acrylic paint in front of a live audience. He was also at the event providing face painting. Thank you so much Jason for the generous bid that goes to OLCC for much needed repairs and maintenance on the campus. It was a great honor to be asked to create and donate this unique painting as I learned so much about Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity. All glory and praise belongs to our Lord!
Fr. Peter blessed the painting, Jason and me! Praising God with every brushstroke!!
